August has been packed with many new and ongoing Asian dramas. Some are being awaited eagerly to be aired and others are currently entertaining the audience, having them glued to their screens.

I am a huge fan of Asian Dramas due to the amount of variety they bring along. This August has been no exception and there are many great dramas worth watching. However, I have handpicked 5 most entertaining Asian dramas which will definitely end up in your must-watch list for this month of August.

Let’s begin with the ones which although were released in the month of July but are still running and being loved by the masses:-

Watcher is a crime-thriller airing currently on OCN every Saturday and Sunday. It caught my interest due to the cast of incredibly talented actors- Han Suk-kyu, Kim Hyun-joo and Seo Kang-joon.  It is just impossible to stay away after watching the first episode. The plot just hooks you in.

A traumatic incident in Kim Young-Koon’s (Seo Kang-Joon) childhood connects him to Do Chi-Gwang (Han Suk-Kyu) and Han Tae-Joo (Kim Hyun-Joo). Years pass away and fate brings them across each other as they become a part of an Internal Affairs Investigation Team for the police.

Do Chi-Gwang is a detective who has been appointed as the chief of this team. He is well known for his work against corrupt officials in the police department.  Kim Young-Koon is a mobile patrol officer who somehow gets involved in one of the operations being conducted by these corrupt officials and ends up getting suspended. Han Tae-Joo was a prosecutor but now is a lawyer. She is well-known for winning cases and her clients are elite people loaded with money. But beneath her cool demeanour, she is hiding her painful scars.

As a team, they investigate the corruption within the departments but as they unearth these cases they come closer to the truth behind the incident which connects them all.

Asian Drama- Watcher

Why Watch-

Like I said before, the cast of this drama itself is a wonderful ensemble which promises of the great acting episode after episode. Along with this the storyline has a nice pace and lots of twists and turns from the beginning. Each case unravels some new information which brings them closer to the real truth. It keeps the audience on the edge and guessing. The beauty of the drama is that it is very realistic.

There is one scene were Han Suk-Kyu has to enter a house where a criminal is hiding. The way he acted as he entered the area is something to watch. It isn’t brazen and bold with lots of shouting or dialogues. There is not a single word said by him but only the expressions on his face. His expressions show you fear but you can make out with his body language that he is not a coward. He is just being cautious as any normal human will be. The way he enters the area, looking around without making big movements but only moving his head gives you such a real feel. That scene bowled me over and left only admiration for this actor.

Must watch this Asian drama if you are looking for a sensible thriller series.

Airing currently, ‘The King’s Avatar’ is a Chinese drama based on a famous novel of the same name. Even the anime of the same name is very popular. The plot is based on e-sports and their championships. The cast comprises of the famous Yang Yang of Love O2O, Maggie Jiang, Daisy Li and Lai Yu Meng.

The King’s Avatar airs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Ye Qiu (Yang Yang) is a professional gamer of Glory. He is considered the God of Glory. Unfortunately, he is forced to leave his team and ends up being a manager of an internet café. He takes this phase as an opportunity to start afresh and begins playing the game Glory with a new account as a freelancer. This series is his journey of creating a new team of rookies and making a comeback.

Chinese Drama The King's Avatar

Why Watch-

E-sport is a very hot trend in the world especially among the youth and this Asian drama taps the excitement and passion of this emerging gaming industry so well. However what makes ‘The King’s Avatar’ unique and more gripping is the characters, the game and the storyline. Not to forget the brilliant quality of CGI used in this drama. Of course, Yang Yang is a treat to watch but one cannot ignore the animation quality of this series. With loads of action and adventure, I am more hooked to the gaming part of this series. If this series can impress a non-gamer person like me, then it surely has potential.

Any gaming enthusiast, a newbie gamer or a fantasy lover will surely like this series. And yes, you will definitely love his weapon 😀

A fantasy Kdrama from South Korea, Hotel Del Luna was in news much before it was telecasted on TvN. The cast of this Asian Drama, IU and Yeo Jin-goo, is well known for their looks and acting. The icing on the cake is the impeccable plot of this Asian drama. No wonder it is one of the most-watched dramas at present.

Hotel Del Luna airs on TvN every Saturday and Sunday.

Asian Drama Hotel Del Luna

Jang Man-Wol (IU), a selfish greedy fickle-minded lady, is the CEO of Hotel Del Luna. Situated away from the hustle-bustle of Seoul, this is no ordinary hotel. The guests of this hotel are special as they are not humans but ghosts or spirits who are waiting to go to After-life. Due to her wrong deeds, Jang Man-Wol has been staying in this world for more than 1000 years. Unexpected circumstances around Ku Chan-Soong (Yeo Jin-Goo) a human, make him end up being a manager of Hotel Del Luna. It is then that things start changing for Jang Man-Wol.

popular Drama Series

Why Watch-

First of all, the cast is the answer. Those who have been watching Kdramas from a long time must have seen Jin-Goo growing not only as an actor but from a child to man. IU has made a mark in the industry as a singer as well as a great actor. She doesn’t disappoint us in this drama as well. Though this is the first collaboration of IU and Jin-Goo, their chemistry is incredible- a pleasure to watch.

Secondly, the series has a mix of humour and horror with various sub-plots weaved in. The cameos performed by a few of the famous actors of the industry, adds to its charm. IU looks stunning in this drama as she dons beautiful attires episode after episode.

Finally, the storyline has been presented in an interesting way. The main storyline goes back and forth between Man-Wol’s past and present. Along with it, there are incidents including various spirits/ghosts of the hotel every now and then. All these pieces are so well placed that as an audience you can string them all without getting confused. Every episode gives you a satisfaction of seeing enough yet leaves you for wanting more.

It is definitely a must-watch.

Although it is way past in August still there are a couple of Asian Dramas which are yet to be telecasted. Among them, two of these have created quite a buzz:-

Yet another South Korean drama based on a webtoon of the same title is to be aired on OCN from 31st August. The drama series is causing a stir due to its mysterious plot as well as a well-known cast. Lee Dong Wook and Im Shi Wan are playing the protagonists.
