I am a sucker for Fantasy Books. How much ever I read them, they are just not enough for me. I love being inside this bubble of fantasy. That is why, when I came across the topic of recommending books under #TheBookBlogTrain, I couldn’t help myself to bring out the 5 Fantasy Book Series which I love the most.
Without further ado, here comes the first one-
1) LORD OF THE RINGS
Fantasy genre will be always incomplete if this book series isn’t present there. Though it has been years that this series came out it still, casts a spell over me every time I read it. The world-building of Middle Earth is so beautiful that words fail me to describe its beauty. Only Tolkien could have made it possible. I have read many fantasy books but till date, I haven’t come across a fantasy world which is as phenomenal as Middle-Earth.
The book is not only about beautiful lands, amazing places and fantastical creatures. The different characters in the book with strong personalities left a lasting impression on me. This book also teaches that at the end it is not about how powerful you are or how many superpowers you hold… it is all about how strong-willed you are to take down the obstacle in front of you. Nothing is above the power of your mind.
An Epic in Fantasy Genre. It is a must read for any fantasy fan.
2) INHERITANCE CYCLE
If Middle Earth was stunning, Algaesia was equally mesmerizing. Christopher Paolini delivers a rich story of the journey of Eragon and his dragon Saphira. Every instalment in this series was a masterpiece and unique in itself. Whether it was the wide wastelands or the dwarf kingdom in the mountain; the beautiful forest of Ilirea where the elves lived or the island of dragon eggs – all landscapes were enchanting.
The twists in the stories were also marvellous. I loved the growth of Eragon from a young farm boy to a dragon-rider depicted in the book. Some of the fantasy creatures created by Christopher in this book were so remarkable. Not only this, I immensely liked the names associated with dragons or swords.
If you love dragons, you need to read this book.
3) THRONE OF GLASS
This series is new compared to the previous two series. I discovered the series by accident when I was searching for Game of Thrones. However, with the first two paragraphs, I was totally sucked into the book and ended up reading the whole series. I was thoroughly impressed by the protagonist carved by Sarah J Maas. Claimed to be a fairy retelling, this book series brought out a female assassin like no other.
The character Caelena Sardothein captivated me as a reader. The fantasy world around her was good but the story-line was much better. As the story evolved and new characters came in, the world got bigger and bigger.
The expanse in which the story has been laid out impresses me. I also loved this series because of its being more women-oriented. I mean to say that the female characters have more weight in this series. Even if they were side-characters, Maas brought them with a swag which left me impressed as a reader.
So if you are a fan of female fighters in fantasyland… this book is what you need to pick.
4) WINTERNIGHT TRILOGY
Yet another female-oriented series and a brand new one too. The first instalment of this series came as an ARC to me. It was brilliantly put together by the author. I was immediately hooked to it. Katherine Arden has entwined the folklores of Russia with few historical incidents to present a captivating story.
Unlike the previous book series mentioned by me, here the principal character is just a normal girl who happens to have the ability to see and converse with spirits of nature. She isn’t a warrior neither a very clever girl. But she has a very strong will. Her determination to live her life the way she wants is what made me feel a pull towards her.
And need I mention the romance which flows in between the books like an undercurrent. When you can feel the sizzle but cannot see it. You got to read the books to know it.
Read this series if not for anything I wrote above but only for the sheer beauty of Russian landscape, covered in snow, described in this book.
Also Read, Review of The Bear and the Nightingale
5) MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN
Ransom Riggs brought a new way of story-telling through this contemporary fantasy. The book series is a combination of stories and pictures which the author collected from people around the world. As a reader, it gave me a very unusual experience. I was intrigued by the pics and admired the author’s creativity of writing a whole series around these photographs.
The series is about children who have supernatural powers but they have been stuck in time-loop due to the dangers lurking outside of it.
So these are the 5 books in Fantasy genre, for Young Adults, which I would recommend.
I might have read many books in Fantasy genre but still, I have to read many more.
So if the book which you loved is not on this list, do recommend it to me and I will love to read them.
