BTS- Burn the Stage came in the theaters here on 25th November, 2018. I booked the tickets for it, as it was an opportunity to have closer look in the lives of these seven boys who have drowned the world in their music. With my elder one, I was in the theater on the D-Day half an hour before the show. My elder was unable to contain her excitement. As I looked around, I found many others having the same expressions of ‘I Cannot Wait to See BTS!!!’ on their faces. It was an amusing sight, as a mother of two, to see many teenage girls swooning over the photographs of these seven Bangtan Boys all around. However, I must say I was glad to see BTS- Burn The Stage movie.
Who Are BTS?
I don’t think that there will be any soul who hasn’t heard about this Boy Band which has become an international sensation from past few years. BTS or Bangtan Boys (Bangtan Sonyeondan in Hangul) is a boy band group of South Korea launched offically by BigHit Entertainment in the year 2013. The seven boys – RM, V, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, Jimin and Jungkook together brought this group to heights which had never been seen in the world of music ever.
What Is So Different About Their Achievements?
I have been a K-pop fan since 3 years. I have loved their music. K-pop is completely a different league if you compare it with the international musical arena. There are solo singers in their music industry but the group bands are the ones who get the most spotlight. Famously known as K-pop idols, these members get selected after a series of auditions and vigorous training sessions. When all the seven boys chosen by BigHit Entertainment were brought together as a group – BTS was born.
They were the first k-pop band, unanimously accepted internationally with the same fervor as in their home country. This is a major achievement because their songs were loved by many even when they were in Korean language. Many of you may cite examples like Macarena, Gangnam Style or the latest Despacito as examples of internationally hit songs in foreign language. But my point is that those were just solo songs whereas BTS stormed the world with their consecutive music albums. Their ‘Love Yourself’ album series became a sensation worldwide.
Not only this, in September 2018 BTS became the first ever k-pop band to give a speech in UN General Assembly. They have launched a campaign against violence towards children and youth, with UNICEF which is a praiseworthy work indeed. With all the prestigious awards in their kitty and their reputation as youth icons for the world, their achievements are indeed extra-ordinary.
Are The BTS Really So Unique?
In my opinion, YES!!
It is a known fact that few of the BTS members had a life full of struggles before coming together as a boy band. Initial years of BTS were also quite struggling for them as they faced lots of criticisms. But they didn’t give up. Even in his UN speech the leader of BTS, Kim Namjoon, said that at one point of time he wanted to quit but thankfully he didn’t give up.
The members have also told that there were phases in their life where they were victims of depression, mental stress and their self-confidence was crumbling to pieces. What I find impressive is that they used all the broken pieces of their life as guiding lights for others through their songs. There are many people who have hardships in their life and they succumb to the stress coming with it. Only some can get through and achieve what they want in their life. Fewer still, after being successful, think of helping and motivating others to come out of their web of insecurities and get their own identity. BTS members are among those few.
For me, the lyrics of their songs bring out their uniqueness. Their songs have motivational power. Many youngsters have acclaimed that they could come out of their depression by listening to the songs of BTS. The Love Yourself album series is a song-collection which speaks about the problems today’s youth are facing. The songs talk about the pressure which a child or a young adult, carries on his shoulders in today’s society. (The world asks so much from them that they lose their own identity while fulfilling the demands of others. The world wants to mold them as per its own will and the innocent youth falls into the claws. Slowly, they forget to live as they wanted to.)
BTS hasn’t limited themselves to only songs. BTS projects their campaigns and charity work towards strengthening the youth. Even some percentage of the sale of BTS albums and accessories goes towards the help. Being in their early 20s and showing such sense of responsibility earns them my respect.
How Is BTS As A Group?
Their love is not only for the world out there, but we can see the camaraderie among them also. The love and care they show for each other is genuine. They are not just a band any more but have become a family.
The amount of hard work they do to keep the faith of their ARMY is quite touching. BTS- Burn The Stage movie showed glimpses of such situations when the members injured themselves or fell ill. Still nothing could dampen their passion to go and perform in front of their fans. Their performance didn’t falter even when they were numb tired. They know what is expected from them. They realize that their achievements have come only because of their sheer hard work. So, they don’t take any chances to mess it.
Climbing a peak is tough but staying on the peak is tougher. This is something the young generation should learn from them.
The ups and downs in their journey as a musical group, has brought them closer. The band is not together just because they can make good music as a team, but also because they have found happiness and comfort in each other’s company. Sharing their strength they have come out of their shells and shed their inhibitions.
This is what makes them a Boy Band to look up to.
